Miss Geraldine (Jerri) Faulkenberry, 60, of Ardmore, Ala., died Aug. 2, 2009.

She was born July 31, 1949, in Athens, Ala. She is preceded in death by her parents, Murray V. and Aldena Toone Faulkenberry.

Survivors include her sister, Murdena Simmons and husband Dr. James Simmons of Murray, Ky.; nephew James Murray Simmons of Evanston, Ill.; nieces, Emily Ruth Simmons of Lexington, Ky., and Sarah Catherine Simmons of Evanston; her Piney Grove Church family and co-workers at Stanley Associates.

John Curtis Hickman

Mr. John Curtis Hickman, 86, of the Robertson Fork community in Giles County died Aug. 4, 2009, at his residence.

The Maury County native was a farmer and retired from Heil-Quaker Corporation as a storekeeper.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Allen and Nona Thurman Hickman; sister Martha Ann Osteen; and two brothers, J.B. Hickman and Allen (Mott) Hickman.

Funeral services were held Aug. 6 from the chapel of Cornersville Funeral Home with James Dickey officiating. Burial was in Lynnwood Cemetery in Lynnville, with his nephew, David Holder, conducting the graveside services.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Edna Earl Hickman of Robertson Fork; he was blessed to have two daughters, Brenda Carol Edwards of Lewisburg and husband Ronnie and Cathy Joyce Maxwell and husband Barry of Pulaski; two sisters, Nona Jewel McBride and Mary Louise Osborne, both of Lewisburg; six grandchildren, Lisa Dianne Qualls and husband Bryan, Bradley Curtis Wells and wife Shannon, Danielle Russell and husband Rob, Jon Maxwell, Tracy Armstrong and husband Jimmie and Tim Edwards and wife Dara; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Carl Edward Turner

Mr. Carl Edward Turner, 74, of Nashville died Aug. 5, 2009, at Donalson Skill Care in Fayetteville.

The Maury County native graduated from Culleoka High School in 1953, then joined the U.S. Army. Following his military service, Mr. Turner returned to Tennessee and spent most of his life in Nashville. He was retired from ABF Trucking Company and a member of the Church of Christ.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Blaine Sr. and Rosa Etta Lentz Turner; and two brothers, Bobby Turner in 2005 and A.B. Turner in 1975.

Graveside services were held Aug. 8 at Rose Hill Cemetery with Wayne Pagel officiating. Military honors were provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19.

Oakes and Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Thomas Joseph Stack Jr.

Pulaski Attorney Thomas Joseph Stack Jr., 66, died Aug. 6, 2009, at Crockett Hospital in Lawrenceburg.

Mr. Stack was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was an attorney with the firm of Henry, Henry, Stack, Garner & Speer for many years. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam Conflict, a classical scholar and a founding member of the Giles County Soccer League.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Stack and Zita Nelligan Stack.

Funeral services were held Aug. 9 in the chapel of Bennett-May-Giles County Funeral Home with Father Jose Kariamadam, the Rev. Mr. Mike Hume and Joe Henry officiating. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery with full military honors.

Loyd Baker Sr.

Mr. Loyd (PeeWee) Baker Sr., 90, of Pulaski died Aug. 7, 2009.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Randall C. and Lucy Nora Morris Baker; wife Mary Arlene Johnson Baker; daughter Marjorie Baker; and brothers Paul Baker and Hap Baker.

Funeral services were held Aug. 10 at Carr and Erwin Funeral Home. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery.

Survivors include his son, Loyd Baker Jr. of Huntsville, Ala.; daughter Carol Dugan of Franklin; brother Russell Baker of San Jose, Calif.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Lela Imogene Yokley

Mrs. Lela Imogene Yokley, 84, of Centerville, formally of Pulaski, died Aug. 9, 2009, at Hickman Community Nursing Home.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Herschel Joe and Laura Ethel Rose; husband Arlin Lee Yokley; brother Royce Rose; and son Roger Dale Yokley.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 12, at Liberty Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Leech officiating.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m., today (Tuesday) at Bennett-May-Giles County Funeral Home, who is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her sons, Tommy Yokley and wife Dorothy of Centerville and Terry Lee Yokley and wife Julie of Ethridge; brothers, W.C. Rose and Rudolph Rose of Pulaski; sisters, Doris Smith of Decatur, Ala., Linda Johnson of Pulaski and Opaleen Barnickle of Lawrenceburg; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Sam Short

Mr. Sam Short, 76, of Elkton died Aug. 8, 2009.

Funeral services were held Aug. 13 at Jordan Funeral Home. Burial was in Old Union Hill Cemetery in Elkton.

Survivors include two sisters, Bessie Lou Holt and Fannie Holt of Elkton.

Randall Garner

Mr. Randall Garner, 47, of Pulaski died Aug. 16, 2009, at Hillside Hospital.

He was employed with Timken.

Mr. Garner is preceded in death by his father, Robert Louis Garner.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., today, Aug. 18, at Pisgah United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Pisgah Cemetery.

Lorene Cross

Mrs. Lorene Cross, 69, of Ardmore, Tenn., died Aug. 15, 2009, at Ardmore on Main nursing facility.

She was born Nov. 1, 1939, in Athens, Ala. Mrs. Cross loved to play the piano, tell jokes and being the center of attention. She also loved cats and her coffee.

She was a devoted wife and mother and a member of Four Square Pentecostal Church in St. Charles, Ill.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Merle Nichols Scoggins.

Funeral services were to have been held today, Aug. 18, at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home with Amos Conley officiating. Burial will be in Gatlin Cemetery.

Visitation is today from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Survivors include her husband Kenneth Cross; son Larry Cross and wife Lori of Taft; two daughters, Wanda Brown and Glenda Schubbe and husband Keith, all of Ardmore, Tenn.; sisters Linda Claude of Saint Charles, Ill., and Carolyn Collins of Goodlettsville; grandchildren Mandy Snyder, Misty Beegle, Kelly Lucas, Tyler Brown, Jessica Brown, Trishia Brown, Christy Brown, Joe Podschweit and Jason Podschweit; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Joyce Dean Henderson

Mrs. Joyce Dean Henderson, 72, of the Bodenham community of Giles County, formerly of Lawrenceburg, died Aug. 14, 2009.

The Lawrence County, Tenn., native is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Edward and Beulah Smith Hill; and her husband, John Henderson.

Survivors include daughter Pam Campbell and husband Mike of Bodenham; son Tim Henderson and wife Kim of Columbia; sister Valeda Roberts of Loretto; brothers Jack Hill of Loretto and Billy Hill of Lawrenceburg; four grandchildren, Becky Henderson, Bret Campbell, Cathy Campbell and Tash Staggs and husband Trevor; and several nieces and nephews.

Vonnie Sue Boren

Mrs. Vonnie Sue Boren, 68, of Ardmore, Tenn., died Aug. 13, 2009.

Born Oct. 29, 1940, in Paris, Tenn., she is preceded in death by her parents, J.V. and Henrietta Taylor Mathney; her husband, Glennon R. Boren; and son Steven R. Boren.

Survivors include daughter Teresa Lindgren of Defuniak Springs, Fla.; brothers Donnie Mathney and Jerry Mathney, both of Ardmore, Tenn.; sisters Pam Mathney of Ardmore, Tenn., and Debbie Mathney of Lexington, Tenn.; and grandchildren, Jason Lindgren and Melanie Boren.

Mr. Franklin Scott (Scotty) Brown, 33, of Dickson died Aug. 12, 2009.

The Athens, Ala., native was born June 20, 1976.

Survivors include his father and stepmother James Larry and Florene Brown of Ardmore, Ala.; mother Linda Greene of Athens; brother Larry Michael Brown of Dickson; sister Cheryl Binkley of Bon Aqua; grandfather George F. Greene and grandmother Mary Matilda Brown, both of Athens.

Judge Robert E. Lee Jr.

Judge Robert (Bobby) E. Lee Jr., 87, of Pulaski died Aug. 12, 2009, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. and Della Clayton Lee; brother Dan Clayton Lee; and sister Lucy Lee Davies.

Memorial services were held Aug. 16 at First United Methodist Church with Wayne Davis officiating.

Phillip George Stanage

Mr. Phillip George Stanage, 74, of Frankewing died Aug. 11, 2009, at Hillside Hospital in Pulaski.

He was born July 30, 1935, in South Bend, Ind.

He was retired both as a major in the U.S. Army and a teacher at Richland High School.

He was a member of Frankewing Lions Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Giles County Education Association and National Education Association.

Mr. Stanage was a member of First Baptist Church, Pulaski, where he was a Deacon Emeritus.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Frederick Dale and Edith Marie Landry Stanage.

A memorial service was held Aug. 14 at Pulaski First Baptist.

Carr and Erwin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lisa Renee Smith

Ms. Lisa Renee Smith, 39, of Ardmore, Ala., died Aug. 16, 2009.

Born April 14, 1970, in Lewisburg, she was the daughter of James Choate and Candy Salisbury Pitts. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Eugene Salisbury, Beatrice Colllins and Margaret and Garrett Choate.

Survivors include her daughter, Breanna Renee Smith of Ardmore, Ala., ex-husband Brent Smith of Ardmore, Ala.; great-grandparents Julian and Ella Salisbury, Bertha and Sam Jones and the Marion Doris family; in her step-family: father Gary Pitts; brother lance Pitts and wife Mary; grandmother Marie Pitts; aunt Christy Pitts; nephew Seth Widner, all of Athens.

Mr. Kenneth Houston Cross, 72, of Ardmore, Tenn., died Aug. 18, 2009.

Born June 3, 1937 in Louisville, Ky., he is preceded in death by her parents, Erk and Mary Brad Cross.

Mrs. Rosezetty Mitchell, 96, of Ardmore, Ala., died Aug. 19, 2009.

Born Nov. 23, 1912, in Ravens Cross, she is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel P. and Bertha Elder Randolph; and her husband, Joseph Bunyon Mitchell.

Survivors include her sons, Joe Mitchell and wife Penny of Ardmore, Tenn., Frank Mitchell and wife Dorothy, Gordon Mitchell and wife Janice, all of Athens, Ala., Charlie Mitchell and wife Chris of Ardmore, Ala., David Mitchell and wife Peggy of Athens and Larry Mitchell and wife Laverne of Elkmont, Ala.; daughters Bertha Paulsen and wife Marty of Athens, Exie Chaput of Michigan, Emmie Layne of Taft, Lucinda Hasting and bobby of Ardmore, Ala., Rosemary Poole and husband Jerry of Fayetteville and Dorothy Mushenski and husband Matt of Nashville; and more than 200 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

Charles Ray Hicks

Mr. Charles Hicks, 60, of Lincoln County died Aug. 19, 2009.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in Vietnam, He was ordained in the ministry in 1975.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Marilyn Henderson Hicks; daughters Alison Ferguson and husband Trevor and Kristin Masterski and husband Charlie; sister Gela Craig one granddaughter among other others.

Danny Duncan

Mr. Danny Duncan, 66, of Prospect died Aug. 19, 2009.

A Veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Duncan was retired as an automobile restoration specialist.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Max D. and Sue Pascall Duncan; and his brother, Noah Edmond Duncan.

Funeral services were held Aug. 21 in the Carr and Erwin Funeral Home chapel. Burial was in Stella Cemetery.

Robert Bryson Brindley Sr.

Mr. Robert Bryson Brindley Sr., 75, of Pulaski died Aug. 22, 2009.

A lifelong resident of Pulaski, Mr. Brindley made significant contributions to his community and his industry for more than 50 years.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Pulaski. He founded Brindley Construction of Pulaski in 1960. A modest man, he was well known to industry leaders across the southeast as a man of integrity and honor. He built the company from a home building operation with his late father, S.W. Brindley, into one of the leading general contracting companies in Middle Tennessee. He faced each personal and business decision with integrity, honor and loyalty. He passed this legacy to his family, who today are carrying forward his vision in construction, development and realty businesses founded by their father. Robert Brindley’s dedication to the employees, vendors and customers of Brindley Construction was legendary.

His love of business was exceeded only by his love for his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, S.W. and Edna Sneed Brindley.

Funeral services were to have been held at 2 p.m. today (Tuesday, Aug. 25) at First Baptist Church, 407 S. First St., with the Rev. Dr. Doug Plumlee officiating. Burial was to have been in Maplewood Cemetery.

Mr. Brindley requested memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Pulaski Building Fund or to the Giles County Public Library.

Mr. Kevin Wade Lewis, 31, of Ardmore, Tenn., died Aug. 22, 2009.

He was born April 10, 1978, in Jamestown. He is preceded in death by his father, Joe Edward Lewis; and grandparents, Lou and Stanton Lewis and Edgar and Rosell Miller.

Survivors include his mother Carol Lewis of Ardmore, Tenn.; son Collin Grant Lewis of Kelly’s Creek; four brothers, Keith Edward Lewis and wife Tracy of Harvest, Ala., Michael Scott Miller of Knoxville, Rodger Edward Lewis and wife Margaret of Monterey and Tommy Arnold and wife Denise of Holiday; and four sisters, Amanda Katherine Smith and husband Brian of Ardmore, Joan Woody and husband Joe, Juanita Smith and husband Scott, all of Crossville, and Anita Bass and husband Steve of Knoxville.

Mrs. Martha Irene Clem, 78, of Ardmore, Ala., died Aug. 21, 2009.

The Columbia native was born April 25, 1931. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Buford Wales Bryant; her husband, L.B. Clem; and son Jerry Clem.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathy Denise Clem of Ardmore, Ala.; sister Edna Hones of Ardmore, Ala.; grandchildren Corey Barnes, Cody Barnes, Elijah Clem and Joey Clem; and five great-grandchildren.

Roxie Mable Foote Hughes

Mrs. Roxie Mable Foote Hughes, 79, of Athens, Ala., died Aug. 21, 2009.

Born May 17, 1930, she is preceded in death by her parents, Chamer Allen and Mary Ann Josephine West Foote; and her husband, Frank Hughes.

Survivors include son Joe McAnally of Opelika, Ala.,; daughter Vickie McLemore and husband Darrell of Elkmont, Ala.; four grandchildren, Mari-Ann Rolin and husband Ben, Devin McLemore, Jamie McAnally and Joey McAnally; and four great-grandchildren.

Faye Harrison Edgin

Mrs. Faye Harrison Edgin, 77, of Nashville died Aug. 26, 2009.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Edgin of Nashville; daughter Christine Edgin Armstrong of Nashville; brother Butler Harrison of Pulaski; and two grandson.

Robert Bashmahchiev

Mr. Robert Bashmahchiev, 56, of Russia died Aug. 7, 2009, in Prospect.

He was born in Georgia, City of Tbilisi, Russia and was a teacher.

Funeral services were held Aug. 30 at Liberty United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brad Smith officiating. Burial was in Prospect Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Kate Varsan Bashmahchiev; parents, Albert and Ruzana Bashmahchiev; son Albert Bashmahchiev, all of Russia; and special friend Fred Elder of Prospect.

James Marshall McGlocklin

Mr. James Marshall McGlocklin, 73, of Pulaski died Monday, Aug. 17, at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia.

He was a native of Athens, Ala., and a retired truck driver for Parkwood Homes. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Edward and Hattie Lou Perry McGlocklin; and brother James Cooper McGlocklin.

Though departed from his family, he will never be forgotten.

Mr. McGlocklin’s cremains were inurned at Giles Memory Garden in Pulaski during a private family service on Aug. 21.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Catherine McGlocklin of Pulaski; three sons, James Kenneth McGlocklin of Prospect, Terry Lee McGlocklin of Pulaski and James Edward McGlocklin Jr. of Prospect; three daughters, Janet Craig and husband Steve of Prospect, Barbara Ann Hardin and husband Bobby and Sandra Hardin and husband Faron, all of Athens, Ala.; three brothers, Fred McGlocklin and wife Betty of Missouri, Charles McGlocklin of New Hope, Ala., and Chuck McGlocklin of Elkhart, Ind.; four sisters, Dolly Magyar and husband Jim of Bristol, Ind., Lisa, Paula and Melissa, all of Alabama; 20 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Nellie Frances Holt

Mrs. Nellie Frances Holt, 87, of Pulaski died Aug. 26, 2009, at NHC HealthCare of Pulaski.

The Giles County native was born March 13, 1922. She was retired from the Giles County School System, working at Bridgeforth School. She was a member of New Zion Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Dickey and Edna Mae Walls Southerland; husband Leonadus Holt; son Bennie Holt; and daughters Gladys Holt and Pam Glover.

Funeral services were held Aug. 28 at Carr and Erwin Funeral Home. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Marvin Vanburen Hargrove

Mr. Marvin (Son) Vanburen Hargrove, 84, of Ardmore, Ala., died Aug. 24, 2009.

He was born April 19, 1925, in Pettusville, Ala., and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Emma Hill Hargrove.

Lindsey Lee Byrd

Mr. Lindsey Lee Byrd, 74, of Goodspring died Aug. 27, 2009, at his residence.

Born Dec. 4, 1934, in Giles County, Mr. Byrd was retired from Pulaski Lumber Company.

He is preceded in death by his father, Paris Lindsey Byrd; and brother Jimmy Byrd.

Funeral services were held Aug. 30 at Carr and Erwin Funeral Home. Burial was in Chestnut Grove Cemetery.

Faye Barnes Chapman

Mrs. Faye Barnes Chapman, 76, of Pulaski died Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at NHC HealthCare of Pulaski.

She is preceded in death by her husband Glenn Chapman; parents, Robert Barnes and Lavinia McCracken Barnes; brothers, Tommy Barnes and Bobby Barnes.

Funeral services were held today (Sept. 1) in the chapel of Bennett-May-Giles County Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Doug Plumlee and Niles Worsham officiating. Burial was in Giles Memory Garden.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to the charity of donor’s choice.

Survivors include her daughters, Carole Chamberlain of New Zealand, Marsha Dunavant of Pulaski and Lisa Alden and husband Scott of Nashville; sister Judy Ingram and husband Royce of Pulaski; grandchildren, Ryan Dunavant and wife Courtney of Pulaski, Nikki Chamberlain of New Zealand, Megan Dunavant of Pulaski, Zachary Chamberlain of New Zealand and Andrea Tetreault of Nashville.

Martha Williams Greene

Mrs. Martha (Mot) Williams Greene, 69, of Augusta, Ga., died Aug. 26, 2009, at her residence.

Born May 7, 1940, she lived for 47 years in Georgia, where she was a teacher at Augusta Technical School for 32 years. She was voted Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Greene is preceded in death by her parents, J.P. and Evie Thornton Williams; brother Frank Williams; and sister Margaret McKee.

Survivors include son Troy Campbell of South Carolina; daughter Toni Scaggs and husband Kyle of Augusta; brothers, Robert Williams of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Gerald Williams of Lafayette; sisters, Mildred (Mit) Maddox of Ardmore, Tenn., and Ann Church of Columbia; and two grandchildren, Payton Scaggs and Tanner Scaggs.

Robert Tony Carter

Mr. Robert Tony Carter, 81, of Tullahoma died Aug. 29, 2009, at his residence.

He was a native of Pulaski and the son of the late Thomas Brown Carter and Nancy Susan White Carter, who were of the Scots-Irish pioneering families of Giles County.

Mr. Carter was educated in the Giles County public schools, graduating from Giles County High School, where he was elected student body president all four years.

Upon graduation, he was awarded an academic scholarship to Vanderbilt University, where he graduated from in 1949 with a B.S. degree in electrical engineering.

Mr. Carter served three years with the U.S. Army Signol Corps during the Korean Conflict.

Afterward, he was employed by TVA in Knoxville and worked on the Nickajack Dam project. In 1954, he was employed by Arnold Research Organization Inc. and moved to Tullahoma.

While at AEDC, he met Emma Jean Parker of Winchester. They were married in 1962.

Throughout his career, Mr. Carter mentored many young engineers and associates. He established the Highland Rim Vanderbilt Club, where he was an active member and extremely successful fund-raiser.

A first rate musician, composer and arranger, Mr. Carter toured with many well-known and popular jazz bands in Nashville and Middle Tennessee, starting in high school and continuing through 2008. His longest association was with the South Jackson Street Band, a popular street band that he founded and led from the early 1960s through the onset of his illness in 2008.

He was a long-standing member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and choir member.

Retiring from AEDC in 1992, he spent more time with his hobbies and family. In his 38-year career at AEDC, he was an innovator and mentor to younger engineers as well as musicians.

In 2002, he became a member of the Vanderbilt Quinz Club, an alumni association of older graduates.

He was a friend, loving husband, devoted father and grandfather and a source of joy to all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Margaret; two brothers, Thomas Brown Carter and Col. William Carter, USA; and a niece, Anne Carter Ball.

Funeral services were held Sept. 3 at First Presbyterian Church, Tullahoma. Burial was in Winchester City Cemetery, Winchester.

The family asks in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to First Presbyterian Church, Lannom Public Library or WPLN Radio of the Cancer Research Fund.

Kilgore Funeral Home, Tullahoma is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Emma Jean Carter; two sons, Robert Thomas Carter and wife Cindy of Tullahoma and William McClellan Carter and wife Madeline of Franklin; sister-in-law Holly Harwell Carter of Pulaski; nephew John C. Carter of Oaktown, Va.; niece Paige Carter Garner of Nashville; and four grandchildren, Hughes McClellan Carter, Emmeline Jean Carter, William Kirkland Carter and Mary Margaret Carter.

Betty J. Holley Heinzman

Mrs. Betty J. Holley Heinzman, 76, of Cleveland died Aug. 29, 2009.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Sheila Heinzman, who died in 2002; grandchild Shane Keys, who died in 2001; brother Niles Holley; and sister Violet Whitt.

Funeral services were held Sept. 1 at Busch Funeral Home, Cleveland. Burial was in Knollwood Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Archie Heinzman; children, Mary Polakowski and husband Tom, Gail Keys and husband Jerry and Daryl Heinzman and wife Donna; siblings, Cecil Holley, William Holley and wife Mammie, and Doris Pickett and husband Gene; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
